The Phoenix Storytelling Tipi Presents: Our Programs 1. The Green Tipi: Stories about the environment, nature Tipi Tellers tell Earth stories to teach listeners of all ages how to appreciate the earth, and how to help preserve its natural resources. Stories come not only from the Native Americans, but from all cultures and develop a curiosity about nature. Storytelling brings to light a better understanding of how nature works and teaches the lessons of nature. The Phoenix Storytelling Tipi Tellers respect and value the interdependence found in nature and their stories reflect these ideas. Bring stories to your outdoor learning area or celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day with us. 2. Trailblazers: Stories of western explorations and expansion These are tales of western exploration and expansion. Come to know the people who have changed the world throughout history. Meet the heroes as well as some of the villains, who helped shape the American West, Texas in particular. Hear the stories of men and women considered pioneers in their field whose efforts have changed the world through their own brand of exploration and innovation. 3. Staff / Student Development Workshops The proof is in the research and there's plenty of it! Storytelling can improve student learning comprehension and skills. Let The Phoenix Storytelling Tipi Tellers put the joy back in teaching for teachers, and the fun back in learning for students. Contact us for further information on how storytelling can:
*A Youth Storytelling Troupecan help you go a step beyond using stories as a teaching tool. It offers a huge lesson in the difference between memorizing (rote) and learning, which is more internal, longer lasting. It is a great tool for the teaching organization (parts of a story, sequencing), visualization, and oral language skills. AND, it is richly rewarding for student, not to mention fun. It builds self-confidence as well as consideration for others. The list is long of the benefits. We’ve had student tellers who are dealing with dyslexia, autism, and/or family issues. There are huge benefits both academically and personally in teaching them to develop, tell, and perform stories.
4. Festivals/School Carnivals The Phoenix Storytelling Tipi Tellers and their eye-catching tipi make an impression everywhere they go. Imagine 28 foot-long poles rising into the air, topped with waving red or green ribbons, and a white canvas "cocoon" snugly wrapped, creating an inviting structure. The storytellers within eagerly await the curious, the tired, and the lost, entertaining and filling all with story and tipi history. Many cannot resist the pull of the tipi, returning again and again to hear just one more story or to digest just one more tidbit of information. Everyone takes home a head filled with memories.
